Mitsubishi Mirage with Rust Under Windscreen
Written on Monday, February 12th, 2007 by auckland windscreens staff
Rust under, or around the windscreen edge (apperture), is reasonably common and not always just in older cars.
This example is of an older vehicle that has previously had a windscreen replacement. Note the rust in the corner.
Most Japanese vehicles produced in the last 20 years, have a Direct Glazed form of windscreen installation.
This simply means the windscreen is “glued” to the vehicle body. It also means that the body must be clean and free of rust to allow the Urethane adhesive a good surface to stick to.
Most vehicles glazed with this method of installation will attribute roughly 40% of structural roof strength to the windscreen and adhesive.
It is for this reason, that a windscreen plays a vital role in vehicle occupant safety, particularly in the event of a crash or roll-over.
Rust such as in this example must be professionally repaired before the windscreen installation can take place.
